A PIR sensor detects motion by sensing infrared radiation emitted by humans or animals. It is widely used in security systems, automatic lighting, and smart home applications. The sensor consists of a pyroelectric sensor and a Fresnel lens to enhance detection range. It detects motion within a 5 to 7-meter range and provides a digital output when movement is detected.
